National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) was recognized again by the prestigious international review system. Times Higher Education (THE) recently released its ranking results of “Best Young Universities 2019: Millennials”. NUK, ranked 56th globally, is the only national university from Taiwan.

The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings apply the same methodology as the World University Rankings to assess research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. However, the weightings are recalibrated to reflect the profile of missions of young universities.

The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).

NUK showed excellence in these indicators. For example, in the fields of teaching, research and international outlook, NUK collaborated with the Foundation for Yunus Social Business Taiwan to establish the Yunus Social Business Research Centre at NUK in 2017— the 3rd of Yunus research center in Taiwan and the 41st in the world. The center has successfully held International forums for social enterprise scholars to share research results. In 2018, the center organized "Minlan International Co-learning Camp" and enabled teachers and students of NUK to visit the Padang Sidempuan area in Indonesia, learning how local enterprises promote their "friendly rainforest coffee and sugar" to the world.

President of NUK Leon Shyue-Liang Wang emphasized, “Although we are young, we are on the right track in the international community”.
