“Minions” for effective recovery of precious metals in waste water
It will be more convenient and eco-friendly to recycle precious metals in industrial waste water of circuit boards, wafer or other high-tech industrial factories.
Dr. Hsing-Lung Lien, a professor of department of civil and environmental engineering, of National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) and his assistant Tai-Lin Lin developed “thiourea modified magnetic nanoparticle (MNP-Tu)” as reusable adsorbents of precious metals.
MNP-Tu just like the “Minions”, they can adsorb different metal ions, such as gold, silver, palladium, platinum…, with different functional group. MNP-Tu can be regenerated where precious metals can be recovered in a concentrated form. In addition, MNP-Tu undergoing ten times consecutive adsorption-desorption still retained the original recycle capacity of precious metals.
