President Chi-Jen Chen of the National University of Kaohsiung received and honored NUK students and faculty members Ming-Yue Wang, Shiau-Wen Tian, Tzu-Yu Lin, and Jin-Sian Su today (12th), presenting them with bonuses and praising their outstanding performances in the Paris Paralympic table tennis events. They achieved remarkable results for Taiwan, securing a silver medal in the Women’s Doubles WD20 category and a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles TT10 category.

On behalf of the university, President Chi-Jen Chen expressed appreciation to Ming-Yue Wang and her team for their hard work. During the Paralympics, he closely followed each match, monitoring the situation on screen. He praised their remarkable performances, saying they "showcased Taiwan and the National University of Kaohsiung to the world." President Chen also emphasized the university's commitment to developing specialized sports programs and continuously discovering and nurturing outstanding students to shine globally. Vice-President of Administration Hsing-Hao Wu, Chief Secretary Shing-Tai Pan, Director of the Physical Education Office and Chair of the Department of Athletic Performance, Chi-Chan Lin, and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Health and Leisure Studies, Chiu-Chen Chang, also attended the event to offer their congratulations.

Professor of the Department of Athletic Performance Ming-Yue Wang, who also serves as the Dean of Student Affairs, has long guided her three apprentices, including Shiau-Wen Tian. This time, she took on the significant responsibility as the head coach of Taiwan's table tennis team, leading the team to achieve an impressive haul of three silver and two bronze medals. Ming-Yue Wang mentioned that since the women's doubles event was scheduled to start first, Shiau-Wen Tian and Tzu-Yu Lin had to take the lead. Despite the "immense pressure," they not only withstood it but also secured several victories, boosting the morale of the entire team. Their mental toughness and resilience are commendable.

The duo of Shiau-Wen Tian and Tzu-Yu Lin teamed up to win a silver medal in the Women’s Doubles WD20 category, with Shiau-Wen also earning an individual bronze medal in the TT10 category. Both athletes are continuing their studies in the master’s program of the Department of Kinesiology, Health and Leisure Studies. Their junior, Jin-Sian Su, a sophomore in the Department of Athletic Performance, played a crucial role as a sparring partner, helping the two senior athletes prepare for their final push before the competition and contributing significantly to their medal achievements.
