2025-01-17 To welcome the upcoming Lunar New Year, the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) embodies the spirit of shared prosperity with the local community. Dean of Student Affairs Ming-Yueh Wang and renowned calligrapher Yao-Wei Song led faculty and students from the "Calligraphy Club" in collaboration with Kaohsiung Metro once again. This afternoon (17th), they set up a booth at the concourse level of Zuoying Station, showcasing calligraphy and giving away festive Spring Couplets and mini potted plants. This event not only adds to the festive atmosphere but also extends well wishes to the public with the phrase "Everything Goes Well" (a play on the word 'snake' in Chinese).

The second event will take place this Saturday (18th) at 2 PM, where they will join hands with “Xiayantian Renshou Temple” to connect with local community members in front of the temple plaza.

This warm and festive event was organized and hosted by the Student Affairs Division at the National University of Kaohsiung. In attendance to show their support were Dean of Student Affairs Ming-Yueh Wang, Section Chief of the Extracurricular Activities Section Hung-Yi Lin, and Director of Public Affairs at Kaohsiung Metro Bo-Yan Wang.

Ming-Yueh Wang stated that the "Calligraphy and Spring Couplets Giveaway" event has reached its 11th year in 2025, making it an important tradition for NUK. Beyond promoting the art of calligraphy, the event also embodies the NUK’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering local engagement and creating shared prosperity within the community.

Event planner Hui-Chuan Huang, from the Extracurricular Activities Section of the Student Affairs Division at the National University of Kaohsiung, stated that the Lunar New Year is a significant holiday in Chinese communities, and putting up Spring Couplets is an essential tradition. Therefore, every year, the university arranges for the Calligraphy Club to collaborate with Kaohsiung Metro, selecting Zuoying Station, a major transportation hub where three railway systems converge, as the venue for their calligraphy booth.

Led by renowned calligrapher Yao-Wei Song, students personally handwrite Spring Couplets and give them away for free to the public. Additionally, adorable "Golden Snake" Spring Couplets and exquisite mini potted plants are also available for free collection at the event—in limited quantities, while supplies last.

Faculty and students write Spring Couplets in various formats, including seven-character couplets (the left roll and the right roll with a horizontal scroll), four-character auspicious phrases, and single-character blessings. While the couplets are pre-written in advance, the other formats offer a customized on-site selection, allowing attendees to choose characters that best suit their personal or professional needs.
