2022-04-29國立高雄大學為響應行政院「2030雙語國家政策發展藍圖」,強化高教端學生英語能力,提昇整體高教國際競爭力,在陳月端校長帶領之下,榮獲教育部「大專校院學生雙語化學習計畫」經費補助,積極於校內推動全英語授課(English as a Medium of Instruction,簡稱EMI)。今(29)日由陳啓仁副校長於行政大樓主持英語教學資源中心(Center for English Teaching and Learning Resources,簡稱CETLR)揭牌典禮。
為打造校內全方位EMI教學體系,英語教學資源中心不僅提供校內教師EMI專業學習資源,鼓勵取得EMI全英語授課證書,提升教師端全英語授課知能;同時也鼓勵各領域教師成立EMI教師專業成長社群,進行專業英語 (English for Specific Purposes, ESP) 課程教學經驗分享,透過同儕社群交流,激盪出最佳的教學效果。另外為輔助教師EMI教學,學校也規劃了12小時的全英語授課教學助理(English Teaching Assistant, ETA)的專業訓練課程,培養教學助理英語口說、溝通及領導課程的軟實力,協助全英語課程順利進行,提昇課堂教學與學習效率。
National University of Kaohsiung inaugurates the Center for English Teaching and Learning Resources to promote featured English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses in response to Taiwan’s bilingual policy.
National University of Kaohsiung inaugurates the Center for English Teaching and Learning Resources (CETLR) on Friday, April 29, 2022. Under the leadership of President Yueh-tuan Chen, the CETLR was funded by the The Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College (the BEST Program) of the Ministry of Education, aiming at promoting English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses to elevate students’ English proficiency, international perspectives, and career competitiveness in higher education, in response to the bilingual policy of Taiwan by 2030.
President Yueh-tuan Chen and Vice President Chi-jen Chen have integrated the existing administrative and teaching resources to establish a comprehensive on-campus EMI support system progressively with the aims of promoting featured EMI courses and cultivating bilingual talents. To implement this important national policy, two outstanding English professors from the Department of Western Languages and Literature, Dr. Shu-chuan Yan and Dr. Yi-hsiu Lai, have been appointed as the Director and Dean Director of CETLR to lead the professional team.
To build a comprehensive EMI support system on campus, the CETLR not only provides EMI professional learning resources to faculty but also encourages them to obtain the English Certificate in EMI skills to advance their teaching. The CETLR also encourages faculty in all disciplines to form EMI professional development communities to exchange academic ideas and share their teaching experiences in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses. In addition, the CETLR has provided a 12-hour professional training program for English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) to support teachers in EMI courses. The program aims to develop students’ soft skills of English speaking, communication, and leadership to enhance the efficiency of classroom teaching and learning.
Vice President Chi-jen Chen said at the inauguration ceremony that NUK has well-prepared for the next phase of EMI education, such as the EMI teaching refinement plan of colleges to promote featured EMI courses. It is hoped that the students will advance overall English proficiency through EMI courses. Meanwhile, Vice President Chen expects the CETLR to provide more workshops, seminars, and training resources in the future to enhance full-English teaching capacity and to create English immersion learning spaces on campus, so that the faculty and students, even staff can bring English into their lives naturally.
